Maurizio Corbetta
Chair of Neurology
University of Padua
Professor and Chair of Neurology at the University of Padova, and Emeritus Professor
at Washington University in Saint Louis, is a neurologist interested in the organization of the brain,
cognition, and neurological recovery following injuries. Corbetta has identified two brain networks
associated with healthy attention and has provide a pathophysiological model of spatial neglect. He has also
contributed in elucidating the functional organization of brain networks at rest employing a combination of
fMRI, electroencephalography (EEG), and magnetoencephalography (MEG). Finally, Corbetta has shown
that focal brain injuries can lead to widespread functional brain network abnormalities, which in turn explain
behavioral deficits and recovery processes.
He was Founding Director of the Padova Neuroscience Center, a multidisciplinary research center dedicated
to Systems, Computational, and Circuit Neuroscience, and Principal Investigator at the Veneto Institute of
Molecular Medicine. He is a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate, and member of the Academia dei Lincei.
He serves as coordinator of the ERC Synergy project NEMESIS aimed at understanding the circuit
mechanisms of stroke and their modulation through non-invasive stimulation, and he will coordinate clinical
neuroscience research in EBRAINS.
